The ghosts of the Basílica dels Sants Màrtirs Just i Pastor

If, one day, you decide to go for a quiet stroll through Barrio Gótico, you’ll probably end up walking past Plaza Sant Just, which is very close to Plaza de Sant Jaume. Here, you’ll find the Basílica dels Sants Màrtins Just i Pastor, which hides a dark past.

In Roman times there was a cult devoted to human sacrifices and it’s on this exact spot where the Pozo de los Sacrificios (Sacrificial Pit)is believed to have been. Due to its depth, none of its victims would survive. Although it was a respected custom, the families wanted to bury the victims, so they excavated some of the underground passages used to access the bodies.

In time, these passages became a meeting place for the Christians. Once Christianity was established, they covered the pit and built a church on top. Legend has it that at night, the ghosts of all these victims emerge to wander the passages.

The Vampire of Raval

The story of the Vampire of Raval came to light in Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century. Behind this nickname hid Enriqueta Martí Ripollés, to whom the murder of more than ten small children was attributed.

At the time, the newspapers told that Enriqueta dedicated his life to sorcery, the kidnapping of children and, in addition, procuring and murdering these children. During the day he would wander the streets, waiting for a lapse in concentration by the children’s parents in order to take them to his house.

He continued with the same modus operandi until the disappearances started to cause social upheaval. It was at this point that the authorities found his final victim, Teresita Guitart, before he could kill her.

Paranormal Activity on Barcelona’s Metro

Many years ago, the Rocafort metro station registered a high number of suicides with four in one month alone. This put the whole workforce on alert.

The most terrifying part of this story is that several members of staff have seen people wandering the station’s platforms. But what makes our hair stand on end most is that they were seen when the station was closed to the public and the last train had already gone.

Hospital de Tórax: from Sanatorium to Film Set

This hospital was opened in the Franco era to treat serious illnesses such as Tuberculosis. For many years it was considered prestigious within the sector.

They say that paranormal phenomena such as psychophony and even appearances have occurred here, linked to patients who did not get over the treatment and ended up perishing, from either a natural death, or suicide.

Despite the horror stories surrounding the hospital, its structure and its location, it has turned into one of the most sought-after filming locations. A Monster Calls, REC 4: Apocalypse and even the acclaimed Operación Triunfo Spanish TV series all chose this location.
