Watch F1 and Moto GP in Barcelona

Motorsport lovers will shortly have a date in Barcelona, specifically with Formula 1 and Moto GP at the Circuit de Catalunya in the locality of Montmeló, just a few kilometres from the Catalan capital.

12 to 14 May will see the holding of the 2017 Pirelli F1 Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth meeting of the season in the Formula 1 World Championship, providing a weekend of motorsport, speed, adrenalin and lots of excitement.

A month later, the adrenalin and the smell of petrol return, as from 9 to 11 June, the Monster Energy Moto GP Grand Prix of Catalonia takes place.

Barcelona-Catalunya has hosted a Grand Prix every year since it was included for the first time in the Moto GP calendar in 1992, and it’s one of the most special GPs of the season for some of the top stars of the championship, such as Marc Márquez, Jorge Lorenzo or Maverick Viñales, as they consider the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as their home ground.

Both the 2017 Pirelli F1 Spanish Grand Prix and the Monster Energy Moto GP Grand Prix of Catalonia are organised at the ideal time of year for visiting Barcelona and benefitting from its spectacular Mediterranean climate.

Moto GP and F1 in live

If you’re thinking of taking advantage of one of these great Barcelona sporting events to visit the city, we’ll give you some tips to help make your experience of motorsport in Barcelona an unforgettable one.

Being close to the city, we recommend you stay in the Catalan capital so that you can enjoy its range of night-time attractions. There’s frequent public transport from the centre of Barcelona to Montmeló, at prices starting from €2.50, with a journey time of about 30 minutes. When you arrive at its railway station, there’s a shuttle bus to the Circuit that provides a special service whenever there’s a Grand Prix. The Sagalés bus company has also organised convenient buses for the journey from the centre of Barcelona to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. You can find out the times and prices and book your ticket by phoning 90 213 0014.

Another option is to go by private or hired car, as there are 32,000 parking spaces. It’s important to remember that the racetrack is over 4 km long, so it’s essential to park the car as near as possible to your seats.

Tips for the Grand prix

Around the racetrack there are over 80 outlets with food and drink on sale for all tastes.

To make the most of the experience, we recommend you go prepared to enjoy a long day at the racetrack. To do this, it’s important to take sunglasses, sun cream, a cap, comfortable footwear and earplugs or earmuffs. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a very large area with little shade, so bear in mind what the Spanish sun is like in spring-summer!

Take the opportunity to visit Barcelona

On Sunday, race day, the racetrack opens its doors earlier (at 9:15 am). If you have tickets for the general area (pelouse), try to get to the racetrack early, because there are no seats in this section and the first to arrive get the best spots. In the pelouse, most fans make themselves comfortable with sunshades and picnic blankets to make the most of the experience and the adrenalin.

A sporting event of this type is the perfect excuse for escaping to Barcelona for a few days. If you’re lucky enough to be able to stay a few days longer, either before or after the race, we recommend you check out our publication 10 must visits for a tour around Barcelona, where you’ll find the #mustvisits that you shouldn’t miss on your visit to the city.quarium.
