Walking and trekking routes in Barcelona

Trekking en Barcelona

Tourists often associate Barcelona with Las Ramblas, the Sagrada Família, the Nou Camp and Park Güell, all of which are in the city centre and always full of visitors.

However, there is a hidden side to Barcelona which is worth discovering for its peaceful, verdant nature. These natural areas, which every province has, are full of walking and trekking routes where locals escape to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the incredible views.

Below, we recommend 6 spots near Barcelona you can visit to disconnect and get some exercise.

Hiking in Montserrat, Barcelona’s most magical mountain

If we had to pick one place to go hiking near Barcelona, we would pick this one hands down. This is Catalonia’s most iconic mountain, with its strange, eroded rock formations, a Benedictine monastery from the 11th century and dozens of great trekking routes.

At World Experience, we want you to get the most out of this experience. That’s why we are offering a half-day excursion to Montserrat at the hands of a guide who will explain the history, facts and stories behind this magical place. We will take you from Barcelona to Montserrat, taking the cable car to visit the monastery, as well as walking along a route suitable for all ages and finishing with food in a Catalan farmhouse. An unforgettable day out in the countryside!

Trekking in El Garraf, near Sitges

Near beaches like the one in Sitges you’ll find the Parque Natural del Garraf, a forest overlooking the Mediterranean all year round.

Although there are many hiking routes in the park, we recommend starting on the coast and going along the edge of the Garraf mines to Can Lluça, where you can take the path to Treballadors. On this route you’ll find charming country houses and viewpoints for capturing the best photos. Follow directions for Sitges, via the GR-5 route and La Peña de Llamp. If you are hungry after your hike, try the paella!

Excursion in Parque de Collserola

Collserola is a natural park closer to the city. In fact, you can go there on the metro or by train.

It has dozens of signposted routes. On each route you’ll find picturesque spots, hidden churches, fountains, and historic architectural features.

It’s a favourite place for cycling enthusiasts. If you’re a keen cyclist, we recommend this e-Bike tour of Barcelona to Alella, where you can taste wine at a vineyard.
