The ‘Geek Triangle’ of Barcelona: All you need to know

If you too are a lover of subculture, the ´Geek Triangle´ of Barcelona is a must-see attraction. On your upcoming holidays, don´t forget to spend an afternoon doing a small geek route to discover all the shops and hidden gems of the city.

You can find the triangle in the area of the Arc de Triomf, Paseo de Sant Joan and Ronda de Sant Pere. That is the point a little after 1990 that became base camp for the first shops, a part of the city also known as the ´Friki Valley´.

The term geek, or in Spanish, Friki, began being used to refer to people with uncommon, sometimes even unusual tastes and interests. However, these days such tastes are much more common in society at large.

To be a geek can imply a love of things from video games to comics, from Warhammer to board games and role playing, as well as Tb series, films and fantasy books, for example.

With the passage of time, these roots have grown and strengthened in society, and the customs have become more and more common in the young and adult populations.

The geeky world: the ultimate millenial cultural movement

Barcelona is a global place of tourist interest, but not just for the works of Antonio Gaudí, its popular festivals, beaches and mountains. The Catalan city has also become a key part of the geek subculture.

The establishments that give the name to this triangle are GigameshNorma Comics and Freak. They have been active since the beginning of the movement, although not always in the same physical locations.

From the beginnings of the Friki Triangle, new businesses have sprung up bit by bit. They began as 15 shops specialising in these themes, right in the heart of Barcelona, and now they are 23. By the end of 2019, how many do you think that they will be in total?

At WeBarcelona we want to share with you a map in which you can see in full detail the exact location of all the active shops right now.

¿Which shops form part of the Friki Triangle?

If you are thinking in giving a gift or just looking for something for yourself, we are sure that in any of these shops you will find it.

Take a look at the list and find the one nearest to where you live or where you are staying. It is likely that there is more than one within reach.
