How to get to Barcelona airport from the city centre?

Barcelona airport, apart from offering a high quality of air services, is well connected to the city centre. In this post, we want to explain the different options available to go from Airport del Prat to the centre of the city.

Apart from not being very distant, the alternatives presented are also generally economic and comfortable. You can choose from many different types of transport until you find the one that best fits your needs. Whether you are bringing your bike with you, travelling with your pet in a pet carrier or if you have several big suitcases. And so, what is it you need?

How to get from Barcelona airport to the centre

To get our bearings, let’s begin by saying that there is about 15km between the airport and the city. So, if you use Plaza de Cataluña as a possible destination in the city centre, you can get there within 30 minutes driving by the C31.

This is an option for everyone that wants to hire a car upon getting off the plane. In the airport itself you can find more than 10 different car companies: Europcar, Sixt, InterRent, Enterprise, Hertz, Budget, OK Rent a Car, Goldcar…With this type of transport the freedom and comfort of your journey wil be maximized, and you’ll also be able to easily get out of the city to visit places like Tossa de Mar, Sitges and Casteldefels, as well as many other places. Prepare to enjoy Barcelona and its surroundings with maximum independence.

If you are in a rush and don’t have time to look at the most comfortable or accessible option, you can always travel in taxi. Taxis from the airport will cost you between 30 and 35 euro to get you to centre.

Aerobus, the option maximizing comfort and price

The most popular option for tourists is always the same, the Aerobus. In approximately 35 minutes and at the cost of 5.90 you will go straight from the airport to Plaza Cataluña or back. Depending on the terminal that you want to go to there are 2 lines. A2 which connects you to terminal 2 and A1, connecting you to terminal 1.

It is worth saying that this service functions every day of the year, including Sundays and holidays. Unfortunately, their timetables aren’t always so extensive, so from approximately 1AM until 5AM it is inactive. But don’t worry, that is not a huge problem.

For those who are flying in or out in the early hours of the morning, at WeBarcelona we have another solution. In these situations, you can use the night bus service specifically lines N16, N17 and N18. Although the route is always longer than the Aerobus, this is the best solution. Getting to the centre in bus, metro or car

As a cheap alternative to the Aerobus, you can always catch the number 46 that goes from Plaza España to the airport. Just as before, the journey time is longer, but you can use Barcelona city public transport passes.

The metro is also a reasonably cheap and popular option, although it takes a bit longer and the price costs more than a normal metro route. From the University Zone you will travel for 20km passing through 15 stops on the Line 9 South. Double check the stops on the Barcelona metro web page to avoid shocks.

Finally, there is also the possibility of a shuttle bus that connects both terminals for free. Although the service is lessened during the night, it remains available for the full 24 hours. You will find stops outside each terminal, and travel without problem.
